Disconnected family members are one of the biggest stumbling blocks to genealogy research. This can happen for several reasons, including divorce, remarriage or adoption. Sometimes family members don't even know about the other people. Other times, they know some of the facts, but the records are misleading or incomplete.
This section of the site lists children who were melded into families in the Broome County area. WORK IN PROGRESS
If you know of such a situation, please e-mail me with specifics and I will add it to this section.
Taft - Eggleston --
Seymour Taft's father, John Ordway Taft, died in Broome County when Seymour was still an infant. His mother, Maria (Monk) Taft remarried to Horace Eggleston who raised Seymour as his own child. In fact, Seymour was listed as Seymour Eggleston in the 1850 and 1855 census of Broome County. He removed to Chenango County for several years after that, but had returned to Broome Co. by 1865, when he is listed on the census of Triangle with his widowed mother.
